It's that time of year again and if you've been in Palmer Hall lately you might have noticed our annual Mitten Tree is on display! Each year we put up a bare tree and ask you to decorate it by donating mittens, hats, gloves, and scarves.
On Saturday, we delivered our first round of items. We're pleased to report that, with your help, we were able to provide gloves, mittens, scarves, and hats to help over 90 people keep warm this winter...
... and the donations are still coming in!
So this year we'll be keeping our mitten tree up for donations through January.
Thanks again to everyone for your support as we make sure everyone stays safe and warm this winter.
"Mittens" isn't just the nickname of a former presidential candidate, it's also an important piece of clothing!
During advent and stretching through Epiphany, a "mitten, glove, scarf, and hat tree" for adults and children is made available for donations in the Narthex of First Congregational Church. The items donated to the tree are distributed to various Capital Region homeless shelters and other organizations in need during the cold winter months.
In addition, First Congregational offers a way to donate clothing year-round by offering a "blue box" in the small parking lot off of Woodlawn Avenue. Items placed in the box are donated to local shelters and other organizations in need.
We and others welcome your donations!
