The Pastoral Search Committee has finalized the Church Profile!
It has been sent on to Rev. Ralph English, the Conference Minister, and will be ready for inquires and distribution after September 1st.
The Committee met this summer with members of the Trustees and Diaconate to interview Rev. Kenneth Walsh and voted to offer him the position of Designated Minister which Rev. Jaronski vacated in
In June 2011, the former pastor of First Congregational Church left us unexpectadly. During the summer months, we were able to identify an Interim Pastor to service the needs of the church while our church community looked for a more permanent pastor.
The Pastoral Search Committee held its first meeting in September. The Committee is made up of members from the Deaconate, Trustees, Choir, and Sunday School as well as other individuals who represent the diverse composition of our church community. Although the Committee is made up of a limited number of members and alternates, all church members and friends are essential for their input and assistance throughout the process.
Below, please find the latest news and updates as we move towards calling the new pastor of First Congregational.
After several meetings to get things in order and a foundation established, the Pastoral Search Committee sent out a questionnaire at the beginning of January to members and friends of First Congregational Church. This questionnaire asks for feedback about the current state of the church as well as where everyone sees (or would like to see) the church moving within the next five years. Additionally, a questionnaire was included that asked people what qualities they would like to see in a new pastor. The questionnaire is due back to the church office on January 20th so the results can be tabulated for the Search Committee meeting taking place the following week.
Once the Committee has this information in-hand, we can begin the next steps of creating our "Church Profile." The Church Profile is essentially a document that is given to prospective pastors and informs them about the history of our church, the current state of our church (membership, programs, etc), and the future of our church (where we would like to see the church progressing, strengths and weaknesses, etc). Additionally, the Profile identifies the character and trends of the surrounding neighborhood and the City of Albany so prospective pastors will understand how our church fits into the community at-large. The Church Profile will be filed with the UCC and the NACCC but will also be available for us to send out to pastors who contact us directly and request additional information about the position.
