Joining First Congregational Church of Albany

Qualifications for Membership: First Congregational Church welcomes into membership any person who loves the Lord Jesus Christ and who proposes to live according to His law of love.

Procedure for Membership: Membership can be initiated by contacting the pastor or member of the diaconate. The pastor will meet with candidates for an orientation meeting and to answer any questions. Membership can be achieved in one of the following ways:

  • For those with membership in another church: Presenting letters of "transfer of membership" from other churches;
  • For those who have not been baptised: Confessing Christian faith and receiving baptism;
  • For those who have been baptised but do not hold membership elsewhere: Reaffirmation of Christian faith;
  • For youth: Completion of the course of confirmation prescribed by the Diaconate;
  • For those wishing to hold membership at First Congregational and another church: In consultation with the Pastor and Diaconate to become associate members.

Membership Approval: Candidates meet with the Diaconate for approval and to give the Diaconate the opportunity to ask or answer any questions. Once approved by the Diaconate, candidates are presented to the church body for final approval. Candidates are officially received into membership during the church service.

Duties: Members of the church are expected to be faithful to all duties essential to the Christian life; to attend regularly the services of the church; to give systematically for its support; to share in its organized work; and to seek diligently the spiritual welfare of the church and the winning of others to Christ.
